Loose thread embellished hand made top

Hand made olive and pink beaded hand stitched jersey top, slow fashion

I was inspired by fashion designer Natalie Chanin and her philosophy or zero waste, local production and unapologetic aesthetic of loose threads. I started thinking that the the things I like about art could work in fashion: process as more important than outcome, embracing imperfection, the hand of the maker in the garment and revealing the construction of the garment on the outside.

The deconstruction fashion movement didn’t catch on in mainstream fashion, but it always made sense to me, why hide how something is made? That can be beautiful and interesting.

This jersey top was entirely hand-stitched using recycled jersey material and reverse appliqué techniques. It’s labor intensive, one-of-a-kind, and I consider it’s making part of the slow fashion movement.
